One of our few remaining landmark American Corporations is once again in the news this week. With all of the other distractions you may not have noticed that Family Dollar, the hugely successful local company built by the Levine folks (just down the road in Matthews), is the subject of two major stories. On the positive side, CEO Howard Levine has given the Red Cross one of the largest gifts it has ever received. A $250,000 challenge grant!

companies proliferated the American landscape employing Americans and providing for Americans. All very much like the dynasty that the Levine Folks have built. Perhaps I am showing my age, but I feel privileged to have lived and worked in those times and for those people. And I hope that the likes of the Levine’s will prevail. Because we really need to invest more of that type of Citizenship back into America if we have any hope of ever recovering from the damage done to our country. |
