Where has
all of the leadership gone?

I am not going to even begin to try and re-hash all that has happened in Washington recently. It is painfully obvious through the actions of our elected official recently just how dysfunctional Washington has become at a time when we need them to step up! The debacle on the “debt crisis” was a fools errand proving that these people care nothing for the health and welfare of the American citizen, only the party line to which they ascribe to. And this dysfunction crosses all party lines!

In my daily research and reading I came across an article that included a famous quote of President Roosevelt's and his stand on righting the debacle of the Great Depression.

In those circumstances, Franklin D. Roosevelt offered Americans a promise to use the power of his office to make their lives better and to keep trying until he got it right. Beginning in his first inaugural address, and in the fireside chats that followed, he explained how the crash had happened, and he minced no words about those who had caused it. He promised to do something no president had done before: to use the resources of the United States to put Americans directly to work, building the infrastructure we still rely on today. He swore to keep the people who had caused the crisis out of the halls of power, and he made good on that promise. In a 1936 speech at Madison Square Garden, he thundered, “Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me — and I welcome their hatred.”

The United States of America desperately needs a man of Roosevelt’s' moral character and leadership abilities if this nation is to stand a chance of righting itself.

Sadly I do not believe there is such a person currently in Washington and the latest crop of candidates for 2012 is even more depressing. Unfortunately I see that the only chance of such a leader taking office would be if President Obama acknowledges he simply isn't the man for the job and steps aside, giving the Democrats one last chance to field a person with the integrity and resolve to lead our nation. I imagine however, that Mr. Obama is a bit too self absorbed to do the right thing.

As a word of caution to those in the political world I offer this.... currently the “baby boomers” are coming to the end of their careers with many millions of them no longer wanted in what is left of the working world. As of October 26, 2009, more Americans, 65 and older, are in the job market today than at any time in history. That's 6.6 million! These are the very same people that rose up against the government during the Vietnam days of the 60's and early 70's. They haven’t forgotten how to rally, they have however, gotten older and smarter. They are well educated and they are among the brunt of Americans suffering through job losses, with retirement accounts trashed and a government wanting to short change them on their promised and already paid for government benefits. I suggest that those who, in their youth were once a potent political force, will again rise up against those who would do them wrong. They will because they remember the cost freedom extols.

In what seems like a lifetime ago, I was on campus at Kent State the night before and just a few miles away when the shootings occurred, so please join me in remembering the Four Dead in Ohio. Here are the names of those who died at Kent State, May 4th, 1970, so that they may not be forgotten:

ALISON KRAUSE
JEFFREY MILLER
SANDRA SCHEUER
WILLIAM SCHROEDER

One day in the not so distant future those in DC are just likely to wake up and find a few million of us “Baby Boomers”, angry and with nothing left to lose on their doorstep, demanding accountability!
