Congratulations Pat! I have always thought highly of you through your years as Mayor. Hopefully you can bring bring some "Untainted Leadership" to the State Level? You certainly have a rough road ahead of you getting there, mostly thanks to the shenanigans your fellow Republican Politicians have been exhibiting over the last year or two.
Since I have been writing here in the Gazette, I have tried to stay very middle road, politically that is... speaking out only when the foolishness among political ranks and individuals deserve to be put in the spotlight for their actions.
And right now, Republicans as a whole have besmirched their party with mud slinging and with the unbelievable extent that they are selling out to these giant corporate super pacs... Can anybody not believe that if elected, they won't will owe their souls to these mega corporations? Personally I see it as already backfiring on them. Romney for instance... here you have a candidate whose vast fortune was built on the backs of broken companies? The very companies that now support him??
Pat, if you expect to win, I suggest you distance yourself as far as possible from these folks, running the squeakiest clean campaign you possibly can. And don't go or promise things where you can't possibly succeed. Whatever you do, don't let the mud slinging and name calling make an appearance in your efforts. The people are sick and tired of it!
Even a blind person can see that without an influx of new business and a lot of new hires in North Carolina, will the state finally recover with enough tax income to make a dent in the damaged infrastructure. Schools, roads and public services all need a huge cash influx just to catch up let alone fulfill the needs of the citizens... a job a Governor cannot fix this alone. Keep in mind that the people (that are still working) cannot afford any higher or additional taxes! |
I suggest you pick on things you can accomplish so that within a year into your term you have a promise fulfilled to hang your hat on. Now there is a novel idea, a politician that actually accomplishes what they set out to do! As a suggestion, how about brokering a deal with one or more of these “Super Pac” Corporations to commit to opening a facility here in North Carolina, then taking those millions of dollars they otherwise would throw away in those advertising "pissing matches" to first hire and then train the employees they say they need for this new age business? Now there is a novel idea, get them to commit to using that cash for positive efforts. (they used to call that on the job training). Can you imagine the headlines; “McCrory brokers deal with Mega Corporation, elect me and they will expand, hire and train 1000 new employees in Hickory!” I bet if you could go to the pols with a deal or two like that in the wings, there would be no contest at all.
For a closing thought Pat, I would like to suggest that you take the time to meet with our current Governor, Bev Perdue. She certainly gave you a run for your money in the last election and even though she made the decision to step down after only one term, she has been able to accrue a respectable list of accomplishments in her tenure. Can you fathom the political dividends a meeting of the minds like that would achieve? In fact, how about you take that a step further, why not invite her to be a consultant, helping you not only in the transition, but the proverbial hand across the water! Now that would turn a few heads all around the Nation, I dare say even in Washington! Of course what we are talking about is a VERY GUTSY move on your part. And in a time where politicians typically are spinless, this country certainly needs an infusion of politicians with guts, and insight! But mostly guts, VERY GUTSY Stuff! Do you have it in you or will you just follow party lines espousing warmed over rhetoric with a large dose of the discrediting of your opponents....
Pat, we need you to take the gutsy route, do you think you can do that? |
