Pain at the Pump Returns
...with a vengeance.

by John Tiley

Welcome to 2012 and rising fuel prices, again. Here we are in the first week of the year and our pals in the government dragged there heels long enough so that bot at the state level and the federal, “congress'” didn't get around to passing the promised hold on increased fuel taxes as we were led to believe they would.

Big surprise ...say “Congress” and you know nothing good will come of it! Interestingly however, is the disparity this time around. As of yesterday both Exxon and Shell were resisting the additional 15 cent Wall Street induced increase while the folks at Marathon, in particular the Marsupial Variety upped the gouge factor to a high of $3.47 a gal as of last night, that is 12 cents higher than the other guy? Wonder why??

BTW The furthest back I could locate in the Gazette Archives, listed gas prices on 12/25/2008 (about the time the Great Recession began) were at $1.58.9 a gallon. I guess at the current rate of $3.47.9 you could say the Oil Companies figure the economy has rebounded, NOT!
