If you didn't get the chance, the War Bird Show at the Monroe Airport this past weekend was really a treat. I wasn't aware of them being here until I heard them flying overhead on Saturday otherwise I most certainly would have mentioned it in my original post. As it was I didn't get over there until late Sunday afternoon so I undoubtedly missed a bunch of the action.... but not the Finale!

B-25 Mitchell

There were a number of Japanese WWII vintage planes and they did a re-enactment of “Tora-Tora-Tora. All set to sound effects and some GREAT Pyrotechnics! You could certainly imagine being in the middle of that fateful attack back in 1941. Flames shooting perhaps 75 feet in the air, explosions and lots of thick black smoke made for a very realistic experience. And for the finale, they set of one HUGE explosion with all of the Jap planes buzzing through the smoke and flames. The heat wave really hit us spectators first followed by an absolutely bone shaking explosion! Very Cool!

I had not seen any advertising for the event nor did I receive any PR releases for the event which was a bit disappointing. However the event was very well organized with a lot of police presence and parking available. I even saw a number of golf carts pulling pedestrian carts for those not able or willing to walk the distance. All in all a wonderful way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon, perhaps next year the city will get me on their mailing list and I can let all of you know the War Birds are coming to town before they get here!
