I have spent an entire career in the Marketing and Advertising industry and every time “Elections” loom on the horizon I quite literally cringe. The mud that gets slung around... who did what to who all while nobody was looking... only just now are these misdeeds coming to the surface of the slimy ooze? Allegation upon allegation and in short order it gets to the point that you don't know who to listen to. Well I was exposed to what I would call an epiphany as it pertains to Election Advertising recently.... and that is that one of the key responses these people, the political advertisers that is, are looking to achieve from all the muck raking, is to dissuade you the people, in large numbers, from going to the polls all together. Yes I said keep YOU from voting, on purpose! As it was explained to me, it is far easier to persuade a smaller number of hard core voters than it is to appeal to the much larger masses. So by virtue of their bullying, name calling and downright lying they are intending to make you so disgusted with it all that you don't bother going to vote. And they in turn manipulate the few that do vote.

I find that when I get upset with their blame game and name calling I force myself remember that these “politicians” are out their hiring actors, not real people and they are employing writers to craft the messages for these actors to deliver. They are not real people voicing their own beliefs, they are only voicing what the gamesters believe will get us to do their bidding. And the truth has nothing to do with it! Are you confused yet?

Another thing to keep in mind is that they are of course, counting on all of us to have very short memories. Just how many of these Senators and Congressmen even try to keep an election day promise once they get or keep the job?. Look back a year later and you will see they were all hollow promises to get you to do their bidding. It would be wise to keep in mind that all they want is to get or keep their posh jobs and that the folks they are really beholding to are the ones who finance their campaigns. Not you or I.

So what I would suggest is for us to look past the schoolyard antics, the so called promises and find out just who is really supporting them because that is the only way you can make an informed decision. With the Million upon millions of dollars being spent on this dog and pony show, the players who are doing the backing expect that when their candidate wins they will be the ones with the power. Power is what it has always been about, not individuals or healthcare or you or me... its about whether big oil or the mega banks or the pharmaceutical/healthcare corporations win. And get their way.
