Around Town:
Route 16 through Waxhaw is, according to the Towns web site getting a re-paving job. And none too soon as it has been chopped up so many times by so many developers and of course time is taking its toll as well. Hopefully they will smooth out some of the turning lanes and use a dash of common sense while their about it? Especially by the Food Lion... I don't know how many near wrecks I have witnessed trying to turn in and out of there. What a mess!
The New Town Road Detour is still in place although I have yet to gotten any info as to what they are doing and when it might be re-opened?
They have done a great job re-working the 16/75 interchange. Job well done! Although I do have one suggestion.... perhaps a speed hump or two similar to what Matthews has put in place, would go a long way toward pedestrian safety not to mention greatly increase the life expectancy of the west bound pavement of Route 16 (just as you approach the light?) As memory serves me, that has had to have been repaired/resurfaced at least three times in the last 15 years and it is all due to the heavy vehicles slamming on their breaks as they come up to the light. I remember when the Bridge and Rail was a weekend destination for my family, parking by the tracks meant tacking your live in your hands trying to get across the street. Slow them down earlier and it will be a life saver for people and pavement alike!
While I write this Hurricane Earl is bearing down on the North Carolina beaches and has put the kabosh on many of our plans for that one last weekend away of the summer. While there is nothing I can do to change that I might remind you that our neighbor to the north is hosting their annual bash... Matthews Alive. I have been there in the past and it is quite an event. For more info, check it out: http://www.matthewsalive.org/index
